Outpatient coloproctology is a prime example of what can be done by a young man with a mission. Professor Dodi is the young man, and this book was truly his mission . His organization of information, his presentation of ideas, and his research of the literature are all superb.

Bringing those three aspects of publishing together makes this truly a monumental work. The first book of outpatient coloproctology by Dr.Dodi was in his native tongue and was beautifully organized and superbly presented. Obviously be felt, and it is necessary , to expand the audience for the book. Therefore, the third edition of the book was to be in English. The idea was to move the book from merely a translated ltalian book closer to an idiomatic English edition. This would make the text rest easier on the British and American audiences. Hopefully , that was achieved, and hopefully that audience will appreciate the depth of research carried out to produce the original work and its artfu1 modification into English. There is a need for ideas in different Languages to be presented so that we can ali understand the issues better for having wider contributions to the scientific knowledge.

Each chapter has very specific advantages, but the overall concept of a succinct summary of each chapter will facilitate readers of selection of chapter readings. The references at the end of the chapters are detailed, extensive, and current.

Although this book is designed to be a students book in coloproctology , the audience extends well beyond the student’s level. It extends to the resident level, the practicing surgeon, the practicing family practitioner, and even the specialist in colon and rectal surgery all will benefit from this book.It is a detailed concise presentation of knowledge in the care of patients with colon and rectal diseases.

The publisher has done an excellent job in the mechanical aspects of the book. The quality of the reproduction of the pictures and drawings is truly first class. All details of a quality volume have been utilized to make this something that we will all be proud to have in our library.
